A Gurugram neighbourhood populated by migrants from the Pakistani district of the same name, Mianwali Colony is a popular destination for tourists. Migration from Mianwali to Gurugram resulted in the decision to christen their new home with the same name as their ancestral home in order to carry forth the legacy of their ancestral home, and as a result, the history of Mianwali from Pakistan got linked with the history of Gurugram. There is a colony in Old Gurugram named after a town in Pakistan, and its history is linked to one of the most defining incidents in Indian history, the Partition. The colony is hidden away in a quiet area of the city, and it has a rich past that is a legacy of the Partition. Mianwali Colony, located in Sector 12 along the New Railway Road, has a long and illustrious history that reaches far beyond its physical bounds. Founded in the early 1960s by individuals who had relocated from Mianwali, a district in Pakistan’s Punjab province that was formerly a part of the British province of West Punjab, the town is named after the district. The town was founded by individuals who had relocated from the district in search of a better life and a place to call home. Although they were doing so, these individuals brought with them memories of their childhoods in India’s pre-partition state with them. The division of countries, in their eyes, was nothing more than a severance of shared cultural and social ties that had existed between them before to the partition.
