Thakur madan singh chauhan the namesake of the 800 year old village of madanpur khadar was originally a warrior in the samrat prithviraj chauhan army and his ancestors had resided in the village for centuries around 600 years ago, some of madan singh’s family members decided to leave the village and settle in garh ganga and haridwar.
It was around 300 years ago that gurjars, who were mostly cow grazers in the nearby areas, were invited to settle in madanpur khadar. The thakur’s family gave some of their land to the gurjars and thus marked the start of a new chapter in the village’s history.

Life in JJ colony in khadar has seen a remarkable transformation since its formation in 2004 and Initially the area was a barren land with no proper infrastructure or basic amenities. It was only when the slum dwellers from across delhi were forcefully evicted and relocated to the urban periphery that jj colony was created.
Since then, the community has seen immense changes in terms of its physical structure, political system, economic conditions, and social norms. Despite the progress that has been made, the colony still faces numerous challenges, particularly in terms of providing basic amenities, access to transportation, and most importantly, the safety of women.
The physical structure of the colony has dramatically changed in the past 16 years. Initially, the area was filled with agricultural canals, dusty roads, and limited access to electricity and water. Today, however, the roads have been paved, electricity and water are readily available, and the area has been cleaned up and beautified.
Politically the area has seen several changes as well and The local government is actively engaged in the development of the community and there is an increased sense of accountability and transparency among the elected officials. the community is also increasingly aware of their rights and are more vocal in expressing their grievances.
Economically the situation has greatly improved since the establishment of jj colony and there are now numerous employment opportunities available in the area and local businesses are booming or the residents have also become more financially independent, and are now able to invest in their own education and businesses.
Socially, the colony has also seen a drastic transformation. There is now a greater sense of unity and solidarity among the community members, and the area is no longer plagued by caste and religious divides. Women are also now more empowered and are actively engaging in economic and social activities.
Despite all these positive changes, the colony still faces numerous challenges. The lack of basic amenities, mobility, and safety of women are some of the major issues that need to be addressed. The local government and the community members must work together to ensure that these issues are properly addressed and that the colony continues to grow and develop.
