Reversible coats are so cool. Came across it on the internet and placed an order for one. Took me a while to believe in the whole reversible coat concept but the coat has surpassed my expectations. Last week, I wore the darker side to a formal dinner with a client and this weekend wore the lighter shade during a casual outing to Khan Market. No one realised that I wore the same coat. Also, love that both sides have neat and perfect buttonholes. No lumping. Great work guys.

Great work guys. Loved that I could call and confirm my fabric via video call. Saves me a trip to your store. Collar is just like the pic I had shared with you. Will definitely recommend you guys to friends and family. Thanks again!

Loved the coat. Placed an order on WhatsApp on a whim and they came to my place within two days. Got my coat within a week. Had to get something formal, last minute, for a family wedding. The closures and pockets are all hand-stitched unlike any ready made formal wear I’ve worn so far. Highly recommend for those in Delhi NCR.

Key Takeaways (TL;DR)

  • Custom-made Overcoat stitching service by Tailorboutiques.com available in Delhi NCR

  • At-Home visits, Measurements, one home fitting and Delivery in 7 to 12 days

  • Wide range of Overcoat fabrics including Pure wool, Poly-wool, pure Melton wool, Kashmiri Pashmina, Double-faced wool fabric, which can be used to create a reversible overcoat for winter

  • Hand set pass-through welt pockets, Double-sided bound buttonholes, Shawl collar or Notch lapel, you name it.

  • Best part? We don’t outsource our stitching work and you don’t have to trust your coat to random local tailor. Every garment is stitched by our in house tailoring team in our own production house.

Now that we’ve gone through the nitty-gritty of what makes a good overcoat. Let’s start how the coat actually gets made here.

How We Sew Your Overcoat, From Pattern to Final Stitch

Making a coat is an elaborate process that starts with precise measurements. Our tailor comes to your flat/office/society gate and takes all the measurements from your body instead of guessing from a size chart. This ensures a perfect bespoke fit.

He will also ask questions on how you plan to style your coat – will you wear it with suits/office wear/wear it on its own. This helps our team understand your requirements better and suggest options that would suit your needs the best.

In case we don’t meet to finalise the shade of fabric/design details, our team will schedule a short video call to make sure of final decisions. We create a paper pattern with your actual measurements – shoulders, chest, sleeve length, coat length – so that the coat falls perfectly from shoulders to the hem.

Only when we finalise the pattern and the fabric, the process of cutting begins. Men’s coats require anywhere between 2.5 to 3.5 metres depending on the length you choose and your height. Coat lengths range between 32-50 inches on average.

Choosing the right fabric is essential – the right fabric not only drapes beautifully but also stands the test of Delhi’s winters. Our in-house karigars cut and stitch coats with utmost care and attention. Interlining and pressing are also done in-house.

Cutting and Stitching: Choosing the Right Fabric for a Long Coat

Choosing the right fabric for an overcoat is very important as it determines how warm and lightweight your coat is going to be apart from influencing its longevity as well.

For colder trips north, heavy fabrics like Pure Melton wool and Kashmiri Pashmina can be considered. However, winters in Delhi NCR being short, sharp and predominantly dry call for lighter options like Pure wools, poly-wool blends that can easily hold the structure of the garment.

Reversible coats are made from double-faced woolen fabrics. The term ‘double-faced’ denotes two finished faces on the fabric. Both faces are woven together to make a single fabric. Hence, there is no wrong side and no need for a lining.

Cutting and stitching a reversible coat is challenging as every single stitch has to be drafted twice – one for each face. Though, the results are rewarding as it gives the wearer the luxury of two coats, one formal and one casual, for office and weekend wears respectively.

Once the fabric is decided, we discuss about the type of collar, pockets, fastenings etc. Most bespoke coats are made with a standard width of 70 inch as it entails minimal wastage and seams.

Collar, Pocket and Button Design for Men’s Overcoats

You can opt for shawl collar for a softer look or notch lapel for a more formal look. Shawl collar overcoat looks classy and festive when styled with a bandhgala jacket or a kurta. Notch lapel goes well with a more formal/suiting look. Something that you might be wearing to office.

We always draft the collar from the overcoat pattern, thereby ensuring that the position of the collar break (fold) doesn’t change over multiple wears.

Pass-through welt pockets (hand-set) are always an option that we suggest, unlike the ones that are glued or made by machines. Such pockets lose their shape over a period of time.

Double sided bound buttonholes for a reversible overcoat or bound buttonholes for a single face overcoat. Reinforced buttoning: Buttons are sewn with reinforced thread so that they don’t come off or get loose after a season of regular usage.

After making the front and back panels individually, we join them at the shoulder and side seam. We check the paper-patterns here once more, to make sure there are no obvious fitting issues that may be carried forward to the finished overcoat.

To sum up, these are the styles of overcoat for man we propose:

  • bespoke overcoat for man
  • double-faced wool coat for men
  • two-piece sleeve coat
  • shawl collar coat
  • notch lapel coat
  • custom overcoat for man

Distinctive designs are the hallmark of our in-house tailoring team who are accountable for the finished garment unlike your average shop-front tailor.

Why Choose Tailorboutiques.com Over a Local Tailor in Delhi NCR?

At Tailorboutiques.com, everything is done by our own staff – our own team of tailors, karigars & fashion designers. It’s a rare example of an integrated process – from measurement to stitching to pressing.

In fact, in our endeavour to provide an even better customer experience, we’ve introduced doorstep-service in Delhi NCR – we’ll come to your doorstep to take your measurement and provide a trial for the fitting. By contrast, tailors in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida outsource heavy or difficult jobs to third-party karigars whom you will never meet.

What Matters Tailorboutiques.com ⭐ Typical Local Tailor 🏬
Who stitches your coat 👔 Our own in-house tailors and karigars ⚠️ Often outsourced to a third party
Measurement 🏠 Free home visit, taken on your body 🚶 Usually shop-visit only
Pattern drafting 📐 Custom paper pattern per order 🔄 Frequently reused standard blocks
Reversible / double-faced builds 🔄 Regular part of our work ❌ Rarely attempted
Turnaround ⚡ 7-day turnaround after confirmation ⏳ Varies, often undefined
Fitting trial 🏠✅ Included at your doorstep 🚶❌ Extra shop visits usually needed

We’ve been doing coat stitching for so long now, that difficult or unusual coat-patterns aren’t intimidating to us. Take, for instance, reversible / double-faced coats which are not attempted by many tailors because they require specialised expertise.

Our recent customers have been pleasantly surprised at the entire process being handled by Tailorboutiques.com professionals and the clearly defined turnaround-times.

How Do You Book a Home Fitting?

Booking a fitting is hassle-free and involves sending us just one Whatsapp (8448448089) with the following information: the city that you are in and the type of coat that you are interested in getting made.

We will then connect with you via whatsapp and confirm the slot for the home/office doorstep visit. The whole process can be broken down into these steps: schedule a home (Doorstep) fitting, select the style and pickup the fabric during the visit and we will tailor (stitch) and deliver within 7 to 12 days.

One fitting session on the time of delivery. Booking an appointment costs nothing. Price depends upon the fabric that you choose.

Woolen / woolen mixes will fall under one category while Kashmiri Pashmina and reversible (double faced) coats will fall under another. Exact price would be communicated after fabric selection and before we get it stitched.

Frequently Asked Questions

In a double-faced coat, two finished fabrics are combined into one panel and may be worn with either side out because there is no visible lining on either side. Standard lined coats have one outside fabric and a different inside lining and are meant to be worn with one side out.

The two faces are slightly peeled apart at the seam-allowances, and stitched separately. The remaining allowance is hand-finished, hiding any raw-edges. This way both sides remain fully-finished and no raw-edges are visible anywhere.

Reversible coats can be made using swivel shank buttons that will fall flush whichever fabric is worn on the outside. We have been making reversible coats using double-sided buttons too.

Double-sided bound buttonholes are made. They are made from the reverse-side of the coat, hence, no machine stitching is visible.

Since a reversible coat is made by sewing together 2 outer-faces of a garment, fusible interlining can be placed in-between the two. Thus, ensuring that no raw/fusible edges are visible.

Reversible coats are made with pass-through welt-pockets, meaning, the welt-pockets on both fabrics will have one common pocket-bag inside the coat.

Usually a long overcoat pattern will require 2.5 to 3.5 meters of fabric, depending on the height of the person wearing it. All fabrics should be of a width of 70 inches.

A good overcoat pattern will have an ease of around 1.5” on the chest, apart from the shoulder-ease to ensure that you can comfortably wear a sweater/jacket under it.
